Hi All, and welcome to the DDCS Blog.
Did you know that if you have reserved your Windows 10 Upgrade, but are still waiting to be upgraded, you don't have to wait?
It is true, you do not have to wait for Microsoft to decide when you can upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft have published a page where you can download and install Windows 10 when you choose to. You can also download an ISO installation file to burn to DVD if you wish. The link for this page is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10.
IMPORTANT - as with any operating system upgrade, it is imperative that you take a full image backup of your system partition before upgrading - so if something goes wrong, or you really don't like Windows 10, you can go back to what you originally had.
Also, Windows 10 is a brand new operating system. So even though the initial reviews have been good - and my own experience has also been good - there may still be some bugs that may take a few months of updates to fix.
Did you know that you can install a Windows 7 style Start button on Windows 10?
Yes, Microsoft have brought back the 'Start' button in Windows 10, and it is an improvement on what came with Windows 8.1. However, if you are still on Windows 7 because you want to keep your Start button as it is, you can do this on Windows 10. A company called Stardock, who published the very popular Start8 plugin for Windows 8, have done it again with Start10.
Start 10 is even better than Start8, it has more customization options, and even puts a 'Universal Applications' link in the Start Menu that you can use to get to the modern apps that you do use. And, best of all, Start10 comes with a 30 day free trial, and if you decide to keep it, a full license only costs US$5.00. The link to get Start10 is www.stardock.com/products/start10/.
A short video can also be viewed here.
So, with Start10, you can have all the bells and whistles of Windows 10, with the Windows 7 style start button and user interface. Should you need to use the default Windows 10 Start button, it is also available as a menu option from the Start10 Start button.
